Security & Safety

Passenger security and safety are a top priority at Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) and for the commercial airlines and charters that operate at the airport. YMM also understands vigilant security does not need to come at a cost to excellent customer service and remains committed to providing passengers with a comfortable, memorable airport experience.

Security Information

The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) is responsible for the screening of passengers and personnel and their belongings for travel.

Transport Canada is responsible for the safety and security of travellers on the ground and in the air. It also sets and enforces the standards for airports and airport operations.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is responsible for policing YMM.



The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority is a Crown corporation responsible for securing specific elements of the air transportation system – from passenger and baggage screening to screening airport workers.

Established on April 1, 2002, CATSA is fully funded by parliamentary appropriations and is accountable to Parliament through the Minister of Transport.
