New Post-Security Employees
Welcome to Fort McMurray International Airport's (YMM) Employee Team!
Safety and Security of our airport is the top priority for every employee who works at YMM. If the position you have been hired for requires Post-Security access you will be required to complete the process outlined on this page.
It is mandatory to follow the Transport Canada Security Clearance Process to obtain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC). It is important that you start this process immediately as it can take 3 months or more to complete the full process. We have several steps in place along the way that will allow you to continue working while you wait for your clearance. Below is a step-by-step process to obtaining your RAIC. Please read through all the steps. It is possible to complete multiple steps at the same time and you are required to complete all steps to gain access to post-security areas.
If you have any questions along the way, please contact the Pass Office. We are here to assist you with the process and get you working with the team at YMM.
Step 1: Get your RCMP Criminal Record Check
Once employment is confirmed with your employer, you must complete this step as soon as possible. The Airport Authority requires, at minimum, a name-based Criminal Record Check completed by the RCMP. It may take two or more weeks for your Criminal Record Check to be processed. Criminal Record Checks older than 90 days will not be accepted by the Fort McMurray Airport Authority.
Apply for a Criminal Record Check at the RCMP detachment located in Timberlea at 105 Paquette Dr, Fort McMurray. The cost to purchase your Criminal Record Check is $15.75 (GST included)
Ask for 2 receipts. You will need one for your records and one for the Airport Pass Office to complete part of Step 2.
Step 2: Apply for Temporary Visitor Access
To begin your employment, you will be given temporary access, but an escort will be required at all times. The temporary visitor access is valid for up to 10 consecutive business days. Extensions of 5 business days may be approved, provided that you have completed all of Step 1 above, immediately following your hiring. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Pass Office.
Complete the YMM Temporary Restricted Area Access Pass Form. Fill out the YMM Temporary Restricted Area Access Pass form. It must be signed by both you and your employer.
Submit the completed YMM Temporary Restricted Area Access Pass Form to firstname.lastname@example.org
Once approved, you will be issued a Temporary Visitor Pass on a daily basis for 10 consecutive business days. You can pick up your visitor pass at the Operations Centre. Please have one piece of Government Issued Photo I.D. You will not be issued a pass without proper I.D. Photocopies are NOT ACCEPTABLE forms of I.D.
You will require an escort at all times while in the restricted area. Your employer is responsible for supplying a valid RAIC Pass holder as your escort.
After 10 business days, if you have not received your Criminal Record Check, you will be required to provide to the Pass Office a copy of your receipt from paying for your Criminal Record Check in Step 1. Access may be extended for 5 business days additional business days, however this is at the discretion of the Pass Office.
Step 3: Complete Programs and Applications
Complete the Security Awareness program. All employees must complete the Security Awareness Program annually. Click on the sign-up button on the photo to create your account. You will be given access to the program right away. You will be issued a certificate at the end of the program.
