Frequently asked questions

How soon should I arrive at the airport for my flight?

Passengers are encouraged to arrive at the airport no later than 1.5 hours before departure time. This will give you time to find a parking space, get into the airport with your luggage, check in, and drop off your checked bags with your airline. Airlines have very strict cut-off times for checked bags; please confirm with your airline what their cut-off time is. Visit our Airlines page to contact your airline about cut-off times.

What type of identification do I need to fly?

If travelling within Canada, all passengers who appear to be 18 years of age or older must have government-issued identification with a photo or two pieces of non-photo government-issued identification including the person's name and at least one piece that would also include date of birth and gender. Passengers who are between the ages of 2–18 must have an original birth certificate or non-government-issued identification (e.g., student card). Either the original birth certificate or photocopy of the original birth certificate is required for passengers who are under two years of age. If you are travelling outside of Canada, a valid passport is required. For further details or clarification, please contact your airline.

Are you open 24 hours and can I stay overnight?

The Fort McMurray International Airport's (YMM) Main Terminal Building is open 24 hours; however, restaurants do have specific hours of operation. Please visit our Restaurants & Shops page.

You may stay overnight at the airport in pre-security areas only. There is limited seating and vending machines available for those who choose to stay overnight.

How do I contact Lost & Found?

Please visit our Lost & Found page to see a list of the most recent items turned in to the airport, or call +1 780-793-8923 to speak to a person about your item.

I have a newborn baby. Can I bring formula through Security?

Some items are exempted from the 100 mL or 100 g (3.4 oz) limit and do not have to be placed in a plastic bag; however, you must declare these items to the screening officer for inspection. Baby food and drinks and breast milk fit into the exempt category, but they do have some restrictions. Please visit the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) website to see a specific list of what is allowed.

How much are your parking rates and do I need to keep my ticket in my vehicle?

There are both short-term and long-term parking lots at YMM. Please visit our Parking page for a listing of the hourly, daily, weekly, and annual rates.

Your ticket does not need to be displayed in your vehicle; however, you will need your ticket to exit the parking lot. Only credit card payments are accepted at the parking lot exit pay stations. Pay stations located inside the airport terminal on Level 1, near the entrance, accept credit card and cash transactions.
