Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) is owned and operated by the Fort McMurray Airport Authority, connecting the World to the Wood Buffalo Region. The Fort McMurray Airport Authority is a community-based, non-share capital organization. The Fort McMurray International Airport offers non-stop flights to four cities in Canada. The airport is a major economic driver for the region, with an economic output of over $354 million and supporting over 70 businesses on airport property and over 900 jobs.

About the Fort McMurray Airport Authority (FMAA)
In 1999, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) created the Regional Airport Commission to take over ownership the airport from the federal government. In 2007, the runway was extended to its current length of 2,286 metres (7,500 feet).
The Fort McMurray Airport was incorporated as an Airport Authority in December 2009. The first Airport Authority Board was formed in January 2010 to become the Fort McMurray Airport Authority (FMAA). The newly formed organization acquired the airport from the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) and took the first steps to becoming Canada’s Premier Regional Airport.

Economic Impact Study
In 2017, the Fort McMurray Airport Authority commissioned InterVISTAS Consulting Group to conduct a 2016 Economic Impact Study. The goal of the study was to determine the economic impact of airport (YMM) operations in the Wood Buffalo Region. Learn more.
