The study found that the Fort McMurray International Airport makes a significant impact on the local economy in the Region of Wood Buffalo, and is a notable contributor to the provincial and federal economies as well. Throughout 2016, the Fort McMurray International Airport supported 900 skilled, well-paying direct jobs, generated $46 million in direct wages and produced $354 million in total economic output.
