The Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) is the aviation centre of the Athabasca region and an important connection for Canada’s energy sector to the world. The Airport is located 15 minutes from downtown Fort McMurray and is in proximity to Highway 63, providing easy access to the region’s oil sands sites, the Edmonton region and Western Canada. Our vision is not only for YMM to be the premiere aviation facility in Northern Alberta, but also to be the hub of commercial and industrial activities in the Wood Buffalo Region.
There are currently over 50 individual businesses based at the airport, providing a variety of aviation and non-aviation services. A wide range of aviation firms, including charter operators, flight support services, and flight training activities, are already present at the airport. YMM has room for even more development.
YMM has invested considerably in expanding airport infrastructure over the past few years including the Main Terminal Building opened in 2014. An expanded airfield is also anticipated for the future. Our expansion also includes the creation of three commercial parks that offer a considerable inventory of land for commercial and industrial facilities of all sorts. Lots are available immediately with long-term lease renewal options.
The necessary municipal zoning is also already in place. This provides opportunities to initiate development sooner than at other proposed Industrial Parks in the region.
Our aim is to deliver cost-effective options for land development at the airport that respond to the challenges of today’s investment market. Business owners, investors and developers alike can look to YMM as a suitable and competitive location for new, relocated or expanded businesses.
